Going to the Sun Road

Explore Going to the Sun Road from West entrance to East Entrance. Here are the best stop points:

  1. McDonald Creek Overlook
  2. Heaven’s peak and The Loop – View of the highest peak in Glacier NP. Granite Peak Chalet trail originates from here.
  3. Bird Woman falls overlook – 492 ft waterfalls between Mt Overlin and Mt Cannon
  4. Weeping Wall – A gushing waterfall in spring, which becomes a mere trickle in late summer
  5. Big Bend – Get spectacular views of Mt Cannon, Mt Oberlin and Heaven’s peak
  6. Logan Pass – the highest point in Glacier National park, and almost the mid point of GTSR. You can observe alpine meadows filled with wild flowers, mountain goats, big horn sheep, marmots, deers and bears. Two popular trails that start from here are Hidden lake trail and Highline trail. If you have time, do Hidden lake trail which is 2.5 miles one way and 639 ft elevation gain.
  7. East Tunnel
  8. Siyeh Bend – marks the transition between higher elevation sub alpine vegetation and forests on east side.
  9. Jackson Glacier overlook – 2nd largest glacier in Glacier NP.
  10. St Mary falls and Virginia Falls trail – 1.1 miles to St Mary Falls and another 0.7 miles to Virginia Falls (all distance are one way only). Moderate hike with 359 ft elevation gain to two beautiful water falls. If you don’t have time, skip the hike for another day.
  11. Sun Point – good access point to St Mary’s Lake
  12. Wild Goose Island
  13. Rising Sun
  14. Two Dog flats – Best place to sight bears. We were lucky to spot bears on two different occasions here at the exact same spot.
